Embracing an Unbranded Approach to the College Search Process

Far too long, students have been sold the idea that the most important thing when choosing a college is its reputation, brand, or prestige. If these three things all sound like the same thing, it’s because they are, and it’s telling that we focus so much on one factor in the search process. Going after the biggest name is not the best way to identify a school for you.

What's really important is finding a college that is a good fit for you, not one that only has a strong reputation or brand. The traditional college search process often puts a lot of pressure on students to conform to expectations, to choose a college based on what others think is best, rather than what's best for them. And that's just not how it should be.

So, I'm here to encourage you to embrace an unbranded approach to the college search process. To focus on finding a college that aligns with your interests, values, and goals. To find a college that fits you, rather than trying to fit into a college. When we say Unbranded we mean you need to think of your self as a fully formed person identifying what college will allow you to reach your goals, not pretending to be someone that is going to be accepted at a particular school.

It might sound scary, but trust me, it's worth it. By embracing an unbranded approach, you'll have the opportunity to explore colleges that might not have been on your radar, to consider options that might not be as well-known, but could be the perfect fit for you. You'll have the opportunity to discover your own path, rather than follow someone else's.

Don’t be afraid to think outside the box. Don't be afraid to consider colleges that might not have the strongest reputation or brand. Instead, focus on finding a college that is a good fit for you. That's what's truly important.

I encourage you to embrace an unbranded approach to the college search process. Focus on finding a college that aligns with your interests, values, and goals.. Remember, finding a college that fits you, is what truly matters.
